RALLieS

Since the 1960’s with the Lyon-Charbonniére rally, then that of Monte Carlo and the automobile Tour de France, these special events have attracted many spectators.

In the 1980’s there were several days of celebration before the event.

The numerous familiarization of the racing area was the occasion to speak with and to get to know the drivers, the co-drivers and their team.

The Burzet-Burzet event was very well known on television and was called the ‘Burzet’.
The new organization of the Monte Carlo rally led to the suppression of several events, of which Burzet was one.
Every year it goes over the way of the famous event ‘ the historical rally’ of Monte Carlo.

The Ardeche rally has one and sometimes two events between Burzet, Sagnes and Goudelet.

This year 2000 a test called the Burzet round took place.

Burzet is using all its efforts for its roads to continue to be used for competitions for all those who love motor sport ,be they drivers or spectators.

THE CHURCH

THE BUILDING

In the 15th century, there was at Burzet a college for builders run by the local deans of St Augustin who had a priory at Burzet and who were responsible for the Christian life in the parish.

The financing for the building was assured by the population ; a large organisation was made to collect the money and to organise the work.
The blocks of granite stone were extracted from the ‘colom’ area.

Before this on there used to be another church in its place, the construction of another one was decided in view of the rapidly increasing population at that time..

The dissymmetry is very noticible : The lateral naves are not the same ; the apse is slanting compared to the naves axis. This is not a unique example , and one in which:can be seen the symbol of Christ lying in his tomb with his head leaning on his left shoulder : The unequal lateral naves are also symbolical. The interpretation of the dissymetry of the church is not however shared by everyone.

A church caracteristic of those of the XVth century

At the top of the pillars there is no capital. The ribs start progressively and directly onto the pillars.

Historical incidents

During the wars of religion the central arch was destroyed in 1617 and re-built in 1621 without the original ribs and nearly in the center arch.

During the revolution in 1789, the bells were destroyed and the sacred items wrecked.
The local revolutionary council made its headquarters in the church during the reign of terror.

THE BELL TOWER

After the revolution, it was not until 1818 that the first bell was installed.

  1. Angelique Anne 600kg, note sol. Then in 1853
  2. Marie Victorine Melanie 1070kg note mi
  3. Xaverine Cecile 150 kg note mi
  4. Stephanie Augustine 300kg note do
  5. Marie Melanie 200kg , note re.

They were blessed by the priest PIGEYRE

Tradition says that the tower moves when all the bells are ringing, but this is a tradition of before the revolution.
That means that they werent the same bells.

Today we cannot verify this tradition.
